Mod Temporama Cake Plate

P1090514

Or serving platter for chicken wings, organic fruit, or raw chocolate truffles.

The back of the plate reads: The pattern is hermetically sealed under glaze & A Dura Gloss Decoration.

I find it interesting that the manufacturers (Canonsburg Pottery) thought that you needed to be told that the decoration was under the glaze while at the same time thinking you well-schooled enough to know the word “hermetically.”

  1. Well, a decoration under the glaze is less likely to wash off in a dishwasher… and perhaps this was being produced at a time where there were concerns about lead (or other toxic substance) in certain decals?

  2. Oh… and old people will likely both understand the word “hermetically”, and have bad enough eyesight that they can’t tell if the decal is added under or over the clear glaze.

    • Canadian seniors must be a super polite lot. I teach American seniors on a weekly basis. Damn people are sharp. If they couldn’t see if the design is under the glaze, they’d feel it. If that didn’t work, they’d grab someone younger and demand that they tell them the answer.
